How We Vet Every Accountant in Our Harrow Network
Self Assessment Accountants Harrow is an independent matching service. We do not employ accountants or file tax returns ourselves. What we do is operate a rigorous, multi-stage vetting process to ensure every accountant we refer is properly qualified, HMRC-registered, insured, and experienced in Self Assessment.
A Matching Service, Not an Accounting Practice
There are thousands of accountants in Greater London. Finding one who is genuinely qualified, registered with HMRC as an authorised agent, and experienced with your specific tax situation — sole trader, landlord, contractor, or higher-rate earner — is harder than it should be.
We built Self Assessment Accountants Harrow to solve that problem for Harrow residents and businesses. Our role is to do the vetting work upfront, so that when we introduce you to an accountant, you can engage with confidence rather than uncertainty.
We operate independently of every accountant in our network. We receive no commission based on the fees they charge, and we have no financial incentive to steer you towards any particular firm. Our only incentive is to make a match that works — because repeat usage and referrals are how we grow.
Independent of any accounting firm
We are not affiliated with, owned by, or financially incentivised by any single accountancy practice. Our referrals are based purely on matching criteria and performance data — not commercial relationships.
Harrow-specific local knowledge
Our network is built around accountants who actively work with Harrow's specific taxpayer profile: IT contractors commuting into the City, buy-to-let landlords in Stanmore and Pinner, and sole traders across North West London. Generic national directories cannot offer this.
No cost to clients, ever
Our matching service is entirely free to use. We are funded by a small, fixed referral fee paid by accountants — only once a successful engagement begins. You are never charged, and our referral fee never affects what the accountant charges you.
Our 8-Stage Vetting Process
Every accountant in our network must pass all eight stages before receiving a single referral. There are no shortcuts and no exceptions.
Professional Qualification Verification
Every applicant must hold a current, practising certificate from a recognised UK accountancy body. We verify membership directly with ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales), or CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants). Lapsed or suspended memberships are rejected at this stage.
HMRC Agent Registration Check
To legally file Self Assessment returns on behalf of clients, an accountant must be a registered HMRC authorised agent. We verify each firm's Agent Services Account (ASA) status and confirm they hold a valid agent code for Self Assessment submissions before accepting them into our network.
Professional Indemnity Insurance
We require a minimum of £500,000 professional indemnity (PI) insurance cover from every accountant in our network. Applicants must supply a current certificate of insurance from an FCA-regulated insurer. We re-verify annually and remove any firm that allows coverage to lapse.
Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Compliance
Under the Money Laundering Regulations 2017, accountants must be registered with a supervisory body for AML purposes. We confirm each firm is registered with their professional body's AML supervision scheme — a legal requirement for anyone providing tax or accountancy services in the UK.
Self Assessment Experience Review
We conduct a structured interview to assess the depth of each accountant's Self Assessment experience. We look for a minimum of three years handling complex cases — including sole trader accounts, rental income portfolios, IR35 contractor scenarios, and HMRC penalty appeals — before granting network membership.
Client Reference Checks
We contact a minimum of three existing clients provided by the applicant and ask a structured set of questions covering responsiveness, deadline management, and value for money. Any firm receiving negative references on core criteria is declined, regardless of their qualifications.
ICO Registration & Data Protection
Because our accountants handle sensitive financial data on behalf of clients, we verify that each firm is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) under the UK GDPR. This is a legal requirement for any organisation processing personal data as part of an accountancy service.
Ongoing Performance Monitoring
Vetting does not stop at onboarding. We collect structured feedback from every client we refer and monitor it on a rolling 12-month basis. Any accountant whose average rating falls below 4.0 out of 5 is placed under review. Repeated complaints regarding missed deadlines or unexplained fee increases result in removal from the network.
Who We Serve in Harrow
